In 2023, high electricity prices and growing demand for electric vehicles and heat pumps fueled significant solar growth. Boosted by a new government subsidy, both small and large-scale solar systems contributed to this surge.
Swissolar predicts Switzerland's cumulative PV capacity will surpass 6.2 GW in 2024, generating around 6 TWh annually. This marks 10% of the country's total electricity consumption, a goal set by Swissolar in 2011 for 2025.
This growth trend is expected to continue into 2024, with the association forecasting a minimum 10% annual market capacity increase. By 2027, Switzerland aims to exceed 2 GW annual capacity, contributing to a 35 TWh renewable energy share.
